quotes I like

“In religion, as in war and everything else, comfort is the one thing you cannot get by looking for it. If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end: If you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth – only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin with and, in the end, despair.” -Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis

“If two people love each other, but they just can’t seem to get it together, when do you get to that point of enough is enough?… never, never.” -The Mexican

“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out otheir dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” -T.E. Lawrence

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” -Lao Tzu

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.” -Oscar Wilde

“This is my one and only life. It is a great and terrible and short and endless thing.” -Hilary Swank (from some movie)

“There are always a million reasons not to do something… You gotta take a chance on something sometime.” -The Office (US)

“we all deserve to be with someone who wants to be with us” -the Office (US)

“Immature love is wanting someone to be happy, but just with you. Mature love is wanting them to be happy, full stop.” -Reba

“Nothing in life that’s worth having comes easy” -Dr Kelso, Scrubs

“The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you’re uncool.” -Almost Famous

still breathing

After taking a long break from blogging, I’ve returned to view my website and see how it is doing.

It’s funny when I look back at some of the things I’ve written… my notes, things about my life and whatever I have been going through at certain points… sometimes I think it was so silly how I felt about things or what I was worried about.

I hope that what I’m going through at the moment becomes one of those times. It’s one of the hardest things in the world to release someone knowing that you really couldn’t live without them and if you couldn’t be with them, then things would get scary. I always thought that if a man and woman really loved each other, then they could go through anything together, supporting each other and sharing in the struggle. I’m learning that life sometimes throws things in your path that you would never have expected. Sometimes those things need to be handled in more creative ways. And just when I think I have everything figured out, things get flipped up-side-down… over and over again… maybe I should learn to expect the unexpected. However, one of the biggest things I struggle with at the moment is patience to wait through these uncertainties.

I hope that soon I can look back at this post and think how silly I am to be anxious about these things.

Recipesies are moving!!! (myrandomrecipes.com)

As I’ve recently acquired a new website where I can post recipes of all kinds. One of my favourite challenges is taking what’s in my kitchen, no matter how bare or full, and creating a nice meal out of it. I also like doing this for others, so feel free to write in with whatever ingredients you have and I’ll see if I can suggest a nice meal out of it! I’m thinking about some how turning the site into some kind of live forum where people can see how to turn simple ingredients into something warm and tasty!

I’ll be moving the (2) recipes I’ve posted so far onto this new site and hopefully posting plenty more soon, so check it out!

a book every girl should read

Last year for Christmas my mom gave me and my sisters a book call “for women only” by Shauntie Feldham. Now my first thought was, “oh great, another book trying to tell me how to find the perfect guy or how to be happy being single or why I was still single or any number of things trying to gently imply that I should be desperate by giving me tips on how not to be desperate… right, thanks.”

So I glanced at the cover, then put it aside while I ravaged the Reese’s Peanut Butter Christmas Trees and opened my Magic Crystal Christmas Tree Kit… always a favourite.

Later I was talking to my sisters about the books we had received and I mentioned the one above. Before I could attempt to make fun of it they stopped me and told me that this was one that I had to read. At first I wasn’t sure about it, but they insisted that it wasn’t a book I should throw in my closet and allow to gather dust. They were so adamant that I began to read later that night… and continued to read until early morning.

From the first pages you can tell that this book will completely revolutionise the way that women should relate to men. I spent all night with my mouth hanging open and a constant ‘light going off’ in my head. I thought that I was a pretty level-headed woman who understood a bit about men, but I was sorely mistaken. I realized that as the book points out, men and women are ‘wired’ differently, completely differently! This book was written by a women who, rather than communicating what she understands about men, decided to take surveys of men based on things women want to understand about them and simply publish the answers with her explanations. The book is written in simple language, using real life examples and explanations of the ways a man’s mind works. Before reading this book I had a completely different understanding of how men and women are different, but I had no idea of just how completely different we are!

I recommend that every women, whether married for 50 years or happily single, pick this book up, read through it and allow your mind to be opened to understand the opposite sex!

Shorts, Skorts, and Summertime

As this week has been full of sunshine and clear blue skies, my mind has been allowed to wander towards thoughts of green grass, warm breezes and tanned skin. Now, the chilly night air reminds me not to get my hopes up too soon as summer in England tends to creep up and hit on random days when you least expect it, then disappear as quickly as it came. However, the mellow spring sun has turned my mind towards a lighter wardrobe and as such, I’ve realized that I can’t really foresee a time in my life that I will ever wear shorts again. This fairly simple revelation came to me earlier today, but it kind of took me by surprise. Sometimes it’s those little thoughts that impact me the most. I’ve come to an age where wearing shorts is pretty much inconceivable. I doubt my legs will ever be as skinny and toned as they were when I was 12, and the cellulite that I’ve had for as long as I can remember has no chance of ever disappearing. Be that as it may, for some reason wearing skirts seems fine, probably because skirts look better at the length that shorts begin to look cheesy and “mom-like.”

So, I’ll now come to terms with the fact that the buying and wearing of shorts is no longer in my future. I think I made my peace with skorts many years ago, so we won’t even go there.

deep thoughts

Sometimes I wish everything in the world could be connected by an elaborate system of vaccuum pressured pipes so that you could order something online and have it delivered within a matter of seconds. It would also be cool if teleportation were possible… life would be so much easier. Maybe I’m just impatient, but wouldn’t it be great if you could be in one country working, then teleport to your home 5,000 miles away, then to the beach with just the click of a button! Maybe someday it will be possible… or not, and I just look like a crazy person…

un televisor a colores

So we went to buy a TV the other day, typical occurance, should be fairly simple… right? Apparently not, at least not in this country. When buying a TV (in the United Kingdom), one needs to purchase a TV License in order to legally view channels, any channels, no matter what.

TV License purchased, some research done in order to try to find the best deal, etc, we went out. Two good choices awaited us: a regular, everyday, normal, yet good-sized TV for a very good price, or a large, flat-screen LCD TV for the price you would expect, but with a spread-out payment plan which looked very affordable. We decided to go for the second option and got the attention of a shop employee so we could make our purchase.

After telling him what we wanted, the shop employee kindly informed us that with the spread-out plan, you actually have to complete the entire payment in order to take the TV home, which meant that we would have to pay for a couple of months before actually getting the TV…

Needless to say, I was a little bit shocked. Maybe it’s because I come from a country of “have it your way” and “instant results,” but it seemed to me a bit odd to expect people to make payments to a shop and not get anything in return for months on end!

In the end we went with the regular TV, with which we can view about 4 channels, only 1 clearly… so now we await our cable hook-up (as our freeview box with aerial and aerial booster doesn’t seem to receive a signal).

toothpaste instructions

“Unscrew cap and remove foil. Visit your dentist regularly.”

So at what point do you actually learn how to use the paste inside the tube? Only if you’re a child under 7 do you receive directions to “use a pea-sized amount for supervised brushing to minimise swallowing.” Then, “Please replace cap after use.” What use?

hmmm…

Can someone tell me if this is honestly what you would call a ‘young’ interracial couple…

http://www.inmagine.com/cr15233/cr15233028-photo

I kind of want to vomit, look at the “girl’s” arm! In no way do they look young and I’m pretty sure that both people pictured have an X and a Y chromosome…

At least label the darn thing correctly, ” Middle-aged homophile couple,” or, “breakfast with trangender/transsexual.” Either way it still just seems like reverse discrimination to me…
