sometimes it’s hard to know which way the wheat is bowing
and the sun beats down in such a cold way
I can’t tell if the tears will freeze or dry before they fall
but you put this steel in my bones for some reason unknown
and this head made of stone sometimes needs a little carving
your words feel so distant, but your heartbeat so close
I can’t tell what you’re thinking, don’t say it’s the worst
I’ll stand without shaking if you’ll give it to me straight
I want to make my ears close, but I know I need to hear
it will take all in me to listen and my life to understand
so tell me quick before I break over what I think you may have said
I don’t know if I’ll make it, but I’ll sure fight my way back
no matter what happens, this pillar will stand
