your tired eyes have told me all your stories
the long lonely road you’ve had to travel
I wish I could have been there, but that’s not the way it goes
you lived for so much more than I know
what you feel and don’t say can repeat and replay
but it never gets old, and in another’s eyes it’s new
inexperience is slowly swept away
and wind blows innocence out the door
drink your coffee, read your book, speak those words
you feel you need to say
we already know, but we have to live it too
maybe my eyes will look sad like yours
but today I’ll read it all, through your eyes
